The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), together with partners from the Taiwanese Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV), celebrated the completion of the second phase of the Power Module Laboratory Establishment project. This facility aims to become one of the most advanced research centers for power electronics in Central Europe. The event confirmed the growing importance of Taiwan-Slovakia technological cooperation and paved the way for the laboratory’s finalization in 2026.

The project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, significantly strengthens Slovakia's professional and research capacities. It prepares the ground for one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the region. Upon completion of the final phase, the laboratory will provide comprehensive solutions for:
- Power module assembly
- Advanced chip packaging and inspection
- Reliability testing
The goal is to establish a technological hub with significant regional impact.

The Representative of Taiwan in Slovakia, Nan-Yang Lee, emphasized the shared vision of building a strong semiconductor ecosystem based on innovation and partnership. According to Lee, the laboratory is the result of thorough strategic consultations regarding the needs of the Slovak and Central European industry. He believes it will foster development in design and testing while creating new opportunities for young Slovak engineers.

Maximilián Strémy, Vice-Rector of STU, highlighted that the laboratory represents a strategic step for the university, opening unique possibilities for research and international education. The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEI STU) added that thanks to the partnership with ITRI, SAV, and Taiwan’s support, the faculty can provide students and researchers with access to state-of-the-art technologies.

Vladimír Šimoňák, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, praised the project’s contribution to the national ecosystem:
"The development of power electronics is a key condition for strengthening the competitiveness of Slovak industry. Projects like this laboratory connect the academic sector, public institutions, and international partners, creating an environment that delivers innovations with a real impact on our economy."

The event featured official speeches, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the cleanroom premises, and a tour of the new laboratory facilities. Following a networking session for academic and tech experts, the partner institutions declared their focus on the final project phase. Once completed, the laboratory will enter full operation as a strategic center for R&D and innovative industrial solutions in the field of power electronics.
