Student and researcher mobility, joint degree programs, and the sharing of research infrastructure are among the pillars of modern higher education. In this spirit, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has long been developing cooperation with one of the world's most prestigious universities – Imperial College London.
The partnership focuses on linking research, education, and international mobility, as well as supporting joint projects and engaging students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers in the international academic environment.
One of the key areas of cooperation is nuclear education and research, where international connection is vital for developing professional capacities and training the next generation of experts. In this context, professional negotiations were held alongside a visit to the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in the UK – one of the world's leading science and innovation centers, hosting more than 240 organizations and cutting-edge research infrastructure.
The development of this cooperation is the result of a coordinated effort by STU and its departments. A crucial role in international relations, strategic partnerships, and professional development is played by the Vice-Rector of STU for Public Relations and International Cooperation, Katarína Smatanová, and the Dean of our faculty, Vladimír Kutiš.
The itinerary also included visits to the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source and the Diamond Light Source, which are among Europe's top facilities in materials research and the use of large-scale research equipment, and whose research infrastructure can also be utilized by our scientists and staff.
STU's cooperation with Imperial College London is further complemented by the activities of Comenius University in Bratislava and the Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of the Slovak Republic, with the aim of strengthening the international integration of the Slovak higher education landscape.
