We are a student team from FEI STU in Bratislava that, with the support of European experts, is designing, building, and preparing a real satellite for flight – FEIsat.

Our Goal |
The first fully student-built satellite from STU in orbit |
Who we are and our main goals
The STUBA UpSpace team was created with one massive and clear goal: to get our FEIsat satellite into orbit. We bring together students from electrical engineering, software, mechanics, and management under the guidance of our mentor, Assoc. Prof. Miroslav Mikolášek. Our work stands on three pillars:
- Practical Experience for Students: With us, you don't just work on fictional assignments. We give students the opportunity to touch real space hardware and gain skills that standard studies don't offer.
- Building a Community: We connect like-minded people fascinated by space. We organize events like Space Night at FEI STU and mentor high school students in the ESA CanSat competition.
- Space Sector Development: We want to prove that space engineering is viable in Slovakia and inspire the next generation of engineers.
FEIsat mission: real technologies and science
Our satellite isn't just an assembled toy; it is a complex system built on professional technologies (such as the cutting-edge Sparrow onboard computer or a transceiver from the proven company Needronix). We carry two of our own scientific experiments (payloads) on board:
- μLAB (Lubricant behavior in space): In miniaturized electromechanical chambers, we measure how selected lubricants behave in extreme space conditions (focusing on viscosity).
- FPGA (Fault tolerance testing): An innovative experiment running on an advanced Xilinx Artix-7 chip. We are verifying a new RISC-V processor core for radiation and fault tolerance without the need for additional software.
Why join us?
The doors to our laboratory (Block E, Room E322) are open. Participating in STUBA UpSpace will give you unique opportunities that studying alone won't provide:
- A Boost for Your CV: Working on a satellite with ESA support will show your future employers your initiative, teamwork skills, and ability to solve real engineering problems.
- Topics for Final Theses: Your work in the team can be the direct foundation for an excellent Bachelor's or Master's thesis with real-world impact.
- Direct Connection to ESA: Our work follows European standards. As a team member, you will gain access to exclusive webinars, courses, and workshops directly from the ESA Academy.
- Tangible Results: You will be working on something that will actually fly into space.
If you are interested in embedded systems, RF communication, structural design, software, or project management, we want to hear from you! We regularly accept new members in the autumn, but you can reach out to us anytime.
For partners and sponsors
Connect with a new generation of innovators. The FEIsat project would not be possible without the support of our partners. What will collaborating with us bring you?
- Access to Talent: Gain direct contact with top future engineers who have already mastered the latest technologies during their studies and know how to solve extremely complex problems.
- Brand Awareness and Innovation: Associate your name with positive publicity, technological progress, and the first fully student-built STU satellite. By supporting our team, you show that you are visionaries who support education and the Slovak space sector.
